The following chart is from a report by Dr. Jakob Winteler, Archivar, Landesarchiv Glarus, commisioned by Otto H. Elmer in 1963. The information provided in this document, and subsequently this webpage, forms the basis of connecting our American Elmer Family Tree with our Swiss ancestry. This overview page will serve as the jumping off point for exploring theese various branches.

Nr. A - Joachim Elmer von Elm, 1532 Ratsherr.

Nr. B - Michael Elmer von Elm

Nr. 2 - Joachim Elmer von Elm. Ratsherr, Pannerherr, und Kirchenpfeger 1595. Married Adelheid Luchsinger. Died of the plague 13 Dec 1632 in Elm.

Nr. 22 - Kaspar Elmer was born in Elm, Switzerland before 1595, and died 21 Sep 1669. He was Ratsherr, Kirchengutsverwalter, und Landvogt 1643 in der Grafschaft Sargans (Counsilor, Church Administrator, and Landholder 1643 in the County of Sargans). Married Susanna Beglinger in 1636. She was born 6 Apr 1615 and died 18 May 1691.

Nr. 38 - Niklaus Elmer was born in Elm, Switzerland on 21 Dec 1645 and died on 09 Dec 1712. On 29 Oct 1675, he married Verena von Caprez. We do not know when she was born but she died on 19 Jun 1720.

Nr. 65 - Jakob Elmer was born in Elm, Switzerland on 08 Jun 1684 and died there on 01 Feb 1754. He married Anna Elmer on 11 Nov 1714. She was born on 13 Jan 1692 and died on 18 Feb 1749.

Nr. 87 - Niklaus Elmer, born in Elm, Switzerland in 8 Sep 1715, died there on 30 Dec 1787. He married Anna Maria Mäuli on 6 Mar 1755. She was born on 1 Mar 1726 and died on 1 Nov 1787.

Nr. 126 - Jakob Elmer was born on 12 Nov 1755 in Elm, Switzerland and died there on 16 Dec 1815. He was a Leutnant, Kirchmeier, and Richter. He married Barbara Zentner on 6 May 1791. She was born on 18 May 1775 and died on 18 Mar 1846.

Nr. 184 - Jakob Elmer, the progenitor of our branch of the Elmer Family Tree, was born in Elm, Switzerland on 25 Aug 1811, where his was noted as being a, Bauer, Schützenmeister und Wagenmeister (Farmer, Marksman and Wagonmaster). emmigrated to the in 1846. He died on 27 Sep 1893 in Black Wolf, Winnebago, Wisconsin, USA and is buried at the New Elm Cemetery there. On 10 May 1832, in Elm, Glarus, Switzerland, he married Ursula Jenny. She was born on 18 May 1812, and passed away before 1880. She is also buried at the New Elm Cemetery, but much of her marker is below the soil line and cannot be read.

Nr. 186 - Niklaus Elmer von Elm, an older brother of Jakob (Nr. 184) and the progenitor of another branch of Elmer relatives in America was born in Elm, Glarus, Switzerland on 20 Aug 1809. He died on 19 Sep 1876 in New Glarus, Green, Wisconsin, USA and was buried at the Swiss United Church of Christ Cemetery in New Glarus, Green, Wisconsin, USA. [Note: Although his birth name was spelled "Niklaus" on Switzerland, his headstone in the USA spells his name as "Nickolaus."] He married Verena Zentner in Elm, Glarus, Switzerland on 06 Dec 1832. She was born on 15 Nov 1807 and passed away in New Glarus, Green, Wisconsin, USA on 05 Dec 1873.
